Every news and commentary outlet needs a good slogan. All the news that’s fit to print. We report, you decide. Speaking for the Workers’ Party of Korea.
For a while I thought the Daily Chrenk’s motto would be “Politics. And everything else. Because there is more to lifeâ€, which reflects both my love/hate relationship with politics itself, as well as a begrudging understanding that while I enjoy writing about many different topics, most of my readers will come here for my take on politics and international affairs.
In the end, I’ve decided on a less passive-aggressive tagline, the one you now see under the Daily Chrenk logo: Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.
My strict constructionist friends will have to forgive my jurisprudential heresy of treating the Declaration of Independence as a living document and reinterpreting its language to suit my personal agenda. My “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness†will not be some of the unalienable rights I’m endowed with by my Creator (thought I happen to believe it true) but rather a shorthand – you could call them constitutional blog categories – for the range of topics I want to write about. “Liberty†is the most obvious one – politics from a centre-right perspective. “Life†and “the Pursuit of Happiness†are more nebulous and there is can be an overlap between the two. Perhaps culture (pop and otherwise), history, books fall more under the former, while travel, photography, relationships under the latter. It doesn’t really matter that much – the handy “categories†and “tags†menus will help you pick and choose what you are interested in, otherwise enjoy the full browsing experience.
P.S. I will not be speaking for the Workers’ Party of Korea, though I hope I will from time to time speak for the oppressed and often starving Korean workers.
