I love the sound of leftie heads exploding from dissonance. This is going to generate a few pops:
The Dalai Lama, who has himself lived in exile for over half a century, said: ‘When we look into the face of every single refugee, especially the children and women, we can feel their suffering.
‘A human being who is a bit more fortunate has the duty to help them. On the other hand, there are too many now’…
In an interview with German newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, he said: ‘Europe, for example Germany, cannot become an Arab country. Germany is Germany.
‘There are so many that in practice it becomes difficult.’
He said ‘from a moral point of view too, I think the refugees should only be admitted temporarily’.
‘The goal should be that they return and help rebuild their countries.’
Aren’t the Buddhist supposed to be really compassionate and shit? I think I can hear the sound of bumper stickers being violently ripped off, with “Free Tibet†replaced by “Fuck Tibetâ€.
Some might point out it’s a bit hypercritical of the Dalai Lama to say all these things while himself being a refugee of 57 years standing, living a comfortable life courtesy of neighbouring India and the rest of the world. Then again, 57 years later China is still in Lhasa and the Dalai Lama is still a persona non grata in his homeland. No doubt he would if he could.
Others, on the other hand, might point out that the Dalai Lama knows a thing or two about having one’s country flooded by uninvited foreigners who irrevocably change the ethnic composition and the culture of the not-quite-willing host.
(P.S. re the picture, no he didn’t really say that. But I’m trying to start the Bad Lama meme)
