THE WALL BETWEEN CHURCH AND STATE – The Catholic Church in Mexico has a reading from the Social Gospel for you:
The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Mexico says Mexican companies that express interest in working on a border wall in the United States are betraying their country.
The editorial titled “Treason against the Homeland” says that “what is most surprising is the timidity of the Mexican government’s economic authorities, who have not moved firmly against these companies.”
Once, the Church would discuss exotic topics like sin. Nowadays, theology is clearly old and busted, and lecturing the faithful on what is and what isn’t treason is the new hotness. Mind you, it was “render to Caesar”, not “explain on behalf of Caesar” if I remember correctly. What’s also interesting is the fact that the Church thinks its faithful and their other compatriots have a right to enter another country at will and in breach of that country’s laws. Remember that next time you feel like walking into a Mexican church and having a picnic in the middle of one of the naves. It’s all OK; an open door is an open door; anything else would be hypocritical.
