For all those among you who, when jihadis in Western Europe started using cars and trucks to kill and main innocent civilians as an alternative to more difficult firearms and explosives, were jokingly (black humour, I know) calling for a tighter car control or suggesting that cars don’t kill people, people kill people – guess what?
Cars and other vehicles “have turned into deadly weapons”, and should be banished from cities to stop attacks like the one in Stockholm from happening in future, according to Aftonbladet editorialist Eva Franchell.
Crackdowns on immigration or extremist ideology are not the way forward when it comes to terror prevention, according to the veteran journalist, writing after Friday’s terror attack in Stockholm left four people dead.Instead, it is cars — which she calls “effective murder machines” — that Franchell says “must simply be removed from city centres and places where people gather, if people are to be protected in future”.
Vehicles are “easy to steal, and so nothing has been able to stop their advance”, writes Ms. Franchell.
“It just isn’t reasonable that a big truck can be driven right into one of Stockholm’s busiest streets on a Friday afternoon right before Easter.”
Noting how it is a popular destination for tourists, Franchell says the city centre must be a “safe environment” for visitors to enjoy. She described it as “remarkable” that it is possible to drive around the Swedish capital’s medieval old town.
Why bother about the messy and complex phenomenon of terrorism when you can one by one try to ban its means? Virtually everything can be turned into and used as a weapon but don’t let that minor detail worry you. Of course, once the cars or at least big trucks are banned from city centres, all will be OK, because as we all know terrorists respect local traffic laws. To paraphrase the old saying: once driving cars in city centres will be outlawed, only outlaws will drive cars in city centres.
It’s also lovely to note how all this nicely intersects with the left’s green agenda. Many activists would love to remove cars from the heart of the city (and some already starting to do, for example in Oslo and Madrid), and now they could do it not just because of their own anti-car jihad but also because of the Islamists anti-West jihad.
But that’s not all:
The idea of reducing the number of cars in Swedish cities was backed last month by Sweden’s environment minister, who argued that driving is a gender equality issue as well as a matter of shrinking the nation’s carbon emissions.
“Cars are driven largely by men so by giving a lot of space to cars; we’re giving a lot of space to men — at the expense of women,” Karolina Skog explained.
We can go even better – let’s elect Islamist local governments that will prohibit women from driving and we’ll have empty streets in no time at all.
