That disturbing sound you’re hearing is alt-right, populists and isolationists crying themselves to sleep. How’s that whole Trump thing going? So far he seems to be out-neocon-ing George W Bush, which no doubt alt-right will blame on the Jooooooos around Don, like his son-in-law Jared Kushner. Having bombed a Syrian airfield, Trump has just dropped the largest piece of non-nuclear ordnance in the American arsenal on an ISIS cave complex in Afghanistan. For those interested, it’s 11 tons of explosives, has blast radius of one mile, and leaves a 300-metres wide crater. But ISIS in Afghanistan, eh? How did that happen?
And now this:
— NBC News (@NBCNews) April 13, 2017
The U.S. is prepared to launch a preemptive strike with conventional weapons against North Korea should officials become convinced that North Korea is about to follow through with a nuclear weapons test, multiple senior U.S. intelligence officials told NBC News.
North Korea has warned that a “big event” is near, and U.S. officials say signs point to a nuclear test that could come as early as this weekend.
The intelligence officials told NBC News that the U.S. has positioned two destroyers capable of shooting Tomahawk cruise missiles in the region, one just 300 miles from the North Korean nuclear test site.
American heavy bombers are also positioned in Guam to attack North Korea should it be necessary, and earlier this week, the Pentagon announced that the USS Carl Vinson aircraft carrier strike group was being diverted to the area.
So essentially we could have a war in north-east Asia sometime this Easter, from Good Friday onwards. Headline writers will no doubt have a ball, what with all the “egg hunt” allusions, not to mention the religio-sadistic imagery of crucifixion, followed by the light of resurrection and an empty tomb.
Reading the NBC exclusive two things come to mind:
- either this is all part of psychological war of nerves, or
- “multiple senior U.S. intelligence officials” should shut the F up and neither should an American news network be leaking secret military plans.
Maybe it’s 2 going on 3.
Multiple sr defense officials say this report is "wildly wrong" "crazy." Pentagon pushing back on NBC report, call it "extremely dangerous." https://t.co/BLnoPHnhj9
