THOSE POOR ENCIRCLED RUSSIANS – An “independent Lebanese geopolitical commentator” Sarah Abdallah asks an important question:
Why does Russia keep putting its borders so damn close to NATO's ever-expanding network of military bases? Why?! í ½í¹„ pic.twitter.com/OP5LRdcmcJ

Maybe because Poland and the Baltic states have had enough after three centuries of being shat upon and dominated by Russia, and would rather not be – ever again – part of the Russian empire? Just a thought. Speaking as a Pole, while I would very much like to live in an idyllic world where we don’t need any military bases at all, I’m much more comfortable with a 100 American bases than one Russian one on the Polish soil; been there, than that, nope, sorry not sorry. It makes little difference to me whether it’s a Tsarist Russia, a communist Russia, or Putin’s Russia. The packaging changes from authoritarian to totalitarian to authoritarian, but the great power aspirations never do.
