SHE’S THE VICTIM – I wouldn’t like to live in a world where my own private standards dictate the acceptable sense of humour or the boundaries of political debate (and, fortunately, there is no risk of that ever happening), just as I would prefer to live in a world where saying something, no matter how stupid or offensive and no matter what your political or other persuasion, does not cost you your livelihood. But the world is what it is.

For the record I think that Kathy Griffin’s Trump decapitation stunt is neither funny nor in good taste. I doubt whether it was meant as a joke, but maybe it’s my fault for not seeing its humorous side, and I’m not sure what deep and meaningful message the photo was meant to convey as a political statement, except that Griffin would like to see the current President of the United States murdered in a particularly gruesome way. If that’s all there is to it, this puts our comedianne in the same moral universe as ISIS, so well done, Kathy; you’re as edgy as a blunt knife in Raqqa.

Perhaps the most ridiculous and laughable (unintentionally) aspect of the whole sad case is Griffin’s attempt to shift the blame onto Trump and make him and his family the bad guys.

“If you don’t stand up, you get run over,” Griffin said. What’s happening to me has never happened in this great country. A sitting president of the US … is personally trying to ruin my life forever.

“I’m not afraid of Trump,” she said. “He’s a bully. I’ve dealt with older white guys trying to keep me down my whole career.”

“He wants to mess with me?” the comedian said. “He picked the wrong redhead!”

‘The president and his grown children and the first lady are personally trying to ruin my life forever,” she said. “I am going to make fun of him more now. I am not going to threaten him, I have no desire to harm him.”

She is the victim here, you know. How’s that for the complete lack of self-awareness? In the progressive celebrity (but I repeat myself) bubble that Griffin inhabits, Trump is Hitler. Ergo, why wouldn’t people actually want to see the evil incarnate dead and mutilated? There is a lessen here for all of us: never uncritically believe your own bullshit, or you might lose your head too.
