GOOD LUCK, PRINCE CHARMING; YOU’LL NEED IT – Saudi Arabia’s next king, 32-year old Prince Mohammad bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, is making the right noises:

“We want to go back to what we were, the moderate Islam that is open to the world, open to all the religions.

“We will not waste 30 years of our lives dealing with extremist ideas, we will destroy them today”.

Good on you, if you really mean it, and good luck to you, if you plan to act on it. Next to oil, Wahhabism has been for decades Saudi Arabia’s only other export, and its barbarian nomadic version of Islam, coming as it did with hundreds of millions of dollars all strings attached, has managed to poison the religion’s more moderate local variants from Indonesia and Bosnia to London and Michigan. If we can really start destroying the (anti-)intellectual and religious climate, in which the Islamist menace has been born and nourished, we’re on our way to winning the war on terror.
