IS HONOUR KILLING A PEOPLESLAUGHTER? –  Oh Canada! Your Celebrity-in-Chief, Prime Minister Justin Castro, er, Trudeau, continues to deliver. Mostly laughs, though often you don’t know if you want to laugh or cry:

Justin Trudeau has been criticized for interrupting a woman during a town hall to tell her to use the term ‘peoplekind’ instead of ‘mankind.’

The Canadian Prime Minister was hosting a Q&A at MacEwan University in Edmonton on Thursday, the latest stop on a cross-country tour that began last month.

Aimee, from the World Mission Society Church of God, a controversial feminist church founded in South Korea, stood to ask a question about volunteering.

Canadian regulations place restrictions on volunteering with religious organizations, and the young woman wanted Trudeau to make it easier for her church to do volunteer work…

‘We came here today to ask you to also look into the policies that religious charitable organizations have in our legislations so that it can also be changed because maternal love is the love that’s going to change the future of mankind.’

At this point, Trudeau interrupted her and said: ‘We like to say peoplekind, not necessarily mankind ’cause it’s more inclusive.’

I have certainly heard of “humankind” as a gender-neutral alternative to “mankind”, but “peoplekind”? I’m not sure who “we” are who like to say it, but I’ve never before come across them. Whoever they are, kudos to them for correcting feminists to use less sexist words.

Mind you, Trudeau is a man of strong opinions about the correct use of language:

We wouldn’t want to “set somebody’s heckles up” by being too “pejorative”, would we?
