Dead pimp, bigfoot porn lover, and a brother-marrying anti-Semite walk into the legislature

bizarre

The joke is a punchline.

Because democracy is a wonderful thing, it elects ’em all to a high office: the good, the bad and the ugly. Sometimes, the process takes a break from elevating the merely narcissistic, deluded and opportunistic, and throws up some really bizarre characters. Like this latest crop from this week’s midterms:

The dead pimp:

A brothel-owning, evangelical Christian-backed Republican candidate, who died last month, won his race for the Nevada state legislature…

Dennis Hof, 72, defeated Democratic candidate and educator Lesia Romanov in the race for Nevada’s 36th Assembly District, earning about 68 percent of the vote. County officials said they would appoint a replacement candidate from the same party for his seat…

Hof, who presented himself as an American pimp, was a strip-club owner who ran multiple brothels. He had nicknamed himself the “Trump from Pahrump,” after the town where he lived in Nevada.

In a June interview with Reuters at Moonlite BunnyRanch, his brothel near his home in Pahrump, Nevada, Hof said his political fortunes had parallels with those of US President Donald Trump.

“This really is the Trump movement,” Hof said. “People will set aside for a moment their moral beliefs, their religious beliefs, to get somebody that is honest in office.”

They did, though we will never know. As cynics would say, the only honest politician is a dead politician. Nota bene, Hof (not to be confused with “The Hef”) was also a subject of a reality TV show. If he had consulted me beforehand, I would have suggested a slightly longer but even more accurate nickname “The Hump Trump from Pahrump”. Rest in peace, Dennis, and may the local GOP find a suitable replacement (maybe one of your former employees).

The bigfoot porn lover:

A Republican political candidate who won his race in Tuesday’s midterm elections was accused by his opponent of being a “devotee of Bigfoot erotica”.

Denver Riggleman, member-elect of the US House of Representatives for Virginia’s fifth congressional district, was accused by Democratic rival Leslie Cockburn of taking an interest in the niche porn genre back in July.

“My opponent Denver Riggleman, running mate of Corey Stewart, was caught on camera campaigning with a white supremacist,” Cockburn wrote on Twitter. “Now he has been exposed as a devotee of Bigfoot erotica. This is not what we need on Capitol Hill.”

Cockburn, a journalist and mother of actress Olivia Wilde, included screenshots of posts from Riggleman’s private Instagram account featuring a muscular, hand-drawn bigfoot with “censored” bars.

Kudos to Riggleman who not only defeated a Democrat but also a mother of yet another irritating leftie celebrity. At least we now know who Wilde takes after. As for the “bogfoot porn”:

Riggleman told USA Today at the time that the post had “nothing to do with Bigfoot erotica” and the book title was a “long-running prank” with friends. Cockburn described the posts as “disturbing” and “revealing”, telling the paper “I leave it to the people to make their judgments about this guy”.

Porn websites Pornhub and Xhamster both reported massive spikes in searches for “bigfoot” after the news. “Bigfoot has long been a subject of eroticism,” xHamster vice president Alex Hawkins said in a statement to Mashable.

“Explicit videos featuring the big ape go back at least to the 1970s, but in many ways the scenario — an ape ravaging an innocent woman — date back to the 1930s with King Kong.”

Bigfoot erotica has also experienced a resurgence in popularity in recent years with the advent of online self-publishing platforms like Amazon Kindle.

Virginia Wade, author of the smash hit 16-part series C** For Bigfoot, told The Daily Beast at one point she was earning up to $US30,000 a month from through Kindle Direct Publishing.

“Mating with this animal — part man, part beast — was as unthinkable as having sex with a donkey,” she writes in one scene. “And yet, here I was, revelling in the experience and not wanting it to end.”

Now you know far more than you ever wanted, right?

The brother-marrying anti-Semite:

For two years, U.S. media has maintained a near-blackout on the specific evidence of Rep. Ilhan Omar’s (D-Minnesota) disturbing character and legal issues. In the 18 hours after Omar was elected to replace Keith Ellison in MN Congressional District 5, the media left zero doubt as to why.

At approximately 3:00 p.m. EST on Wednesday, Google News was returning 105 links to the search term “Ilhan Omar” which had been posted since her victory. Those links are listed below.

Not one of the 105 linked articles presents the troubling evidence against Omar — except, in two or three cases, to dismiss it without explanation.

In all of the links, Ilhan Omar is covered positively as a “history-making” symbol: The first Muslim woman elected to Congress, and a Somali refugee.

Omar is the author of the now famous tweet “Israel has hypnotized the world, may Allah awaken the people and help them see the evil doings of Israel. #Gaza #Palestine #Israel” and likes to talk about the “apartheid state of Israel”. More importantly:

Immediately after being elected to her current seat in 2016, Omar faced allegations — soon backed by a remarkable amount of evidence — that she had married her own brother in 2009, and was still legally his wife. They officially divorced in December 2017.

The motivation for the marriage remains unclear. However, the totality of the evidence points to possible immigration fraud and student loan fraud.

Read the above and this document-rich articles, which tell a truly bizarre story involving a whole host of possible criminal offences, including perjury. Omar is also being investigated by the Minnesota Campaign Finance Board for several alleged violations.

You cannot possibly tell me that if Omar have been a Republican this would not be a nation-wide news story.

Other notable mentions:

Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez (AKA Alexandra Occasional Cortex) – the youngest woman ever elected to the US congress and, as a self-avowed socialist, also probably the dumbest. Currently complaining she can’t afford to rent an apartment in Washington before her term starts in January. Don’t worry Alexandra, the rich will soon pay for it.

Keith Ellison – the outgoing deputy chair of the Democratic Party, former Congressman from Minnesota, now elected as the state’s Attorney-General,  despite allegations of domestic abuse significantly more contemporaneous (if not credible) than those levelled against Brett Kavanaugh.

Bob Menendez – re-elected Senator for New Jersey; the case against him for fraud, conspiracy and bribery ended in a mistrial a year ago after the jury got deadlocked (allegations of sex with underage prostitutes in the Dominican Republic were not part of the prosecution’s case). One of the jurors (who was dismissed through the case) was a guest at his victory party. Menendez was “severely admonished” by the Senate Ethics Committee over his actions.
